RCG disappoints, RBS tomorrow

RCG reported a good set of numbers, with EPS at 13p. Market reaction was one of disappointment however as short-term traders pulled out.

RBS announces results tomorrow, their statement will have a huge impact on my portfolio returns for the year.

7 a.m. tomorrow. Shares currently trade around 400p.

A couple of shares to keep an eye on

Two shares I am looking at quite closely at the moment.

Two software companies there. Both are growth companies. Bond International trades at 138p to buy, versus a 2007 forecast of 16.4p and a 2008 forecast of 18.2p. That's a ten percent growth rate but a P/E of 8.4. Too cheap. There is considerable risk to earnings if employment takes a hit though, as it would be expected to in a slowdown.

Statpro on the other hand is expected to make 6.9p in 2007 and 8.3p in 2008. Much higher growth (20%) but at 86p to buy, a higher P/E ratio too, of 12.5. Statpro is considered to have better earnings and a strong customer base. The disparity between growth and P/E is widest at Statpro, which suggests is the cheaper share.

Both are cracking companies, whicever way you look at it though.

Barclays: dividend up 10%

Great results from Barclays this morning. Barclays shares had fallen sharply since I started buying last year over fears the bank would lose a lot on sub-prime mortgages.

Well, in their announcement this morning we had this:

The most important measure of company performance, earnings per share, was down slightly to 68.9p from 71.9p. It will be interesting to see how analyst respond to this. Currently the consensus forecast for 2008 is 72.25p, approximately a 5% increase. The problem is the market still thinks there are considerable risks within Barclays. The shares trade for 476.5p, a P/E ratio of 6.60 and a dividend yield of 7.4%. Way too cheap for a business as resilient as Barclays has proved itself.

Worth buying a few more, I think.

Big day tomorrow

Tomorrow morning Barclays will be announcing their final numbers for the year 2007. This is a big deal. It will affect perceptions of all UK banks and Barclays and RBS are together a huge portfolio holding for me.

Eyes down as I say for 7 a.m. Off to be now, or I won't be up in time for it!
